Hickory Springs Reunion October 3, 2010

The first Sunday of every October, we have set aside for our Family Reunion at Hickory Springs Bapt. Church. Hickory Springs church was established in 1841 and placed on the National Register of Historical Places in Washington, DC on May 5, 1989. The current building that we gather at was constructed in 1898. The original building was constructed of logs in 1841. There is a natural spring behind the church. My great great grandparents (on my mom's side) are buried there, as well as several great aunts & uncles. We began our reunion by singing old hymns. Many would gather around the old piano to lead the music. We had a guest preacher to lead service. Then we had lunch behind the church. There are several old tables set up where we set our covered dishes. Then we toured the cemetary and finally we walked to the springs. This has been a tradition of ours for as long as I remember and I hope to pass it on to my girls.
